The Campus Center for Advising and Academic Services has been developed as part of the University of Illinois ’ strategic plan to strengthen the essential academic services of advising and mentoring; activities that are at the heart of a student’s collegiate experience.
CCAAS located at the heart of campus on the fifth floor of the Illini Union Bookstore building.
CCAAS serves as the administrative hub of three units:
Division of General Studies (DGS)
DGS is the enrollment program for students who want to explore their academic options before declaring their majors and for students in transition between colleges and/or majors. The skilled advisors at DGS assist all undergraduate students in exploring academic opportunities, making informed decisions about major options, and easing through the transfer process. The Center is fully committed to promoting academic success and retention and increasing the variety of curricula to which students have access.
Pre Law Advising Services (PLAS)
The Pre-Law Director assists students explore their interests in a legal education and career. The director serves as a guide through the steps toward applying to law school and by suggesting courses and activities that will make students more desirable law school applicants. CCAAS houses a prelaw resource area where you may browse its library of materials from law schools and its admission statistics. The office also organizes special seminars and meeting relevant to law school application.
The Office of Prestigious Scholarships (TOPS)
TOPS Directors will assist you through the prestigious fellowship application process in your quest for greater knowledge, personal growth, and professional development.
Although many nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships are available for graduate and undergraduate study and/or research, competition is steep. The Office administers several prestigious scholarships for University of Illinois students and alumni. Throughout the application process, the directors provide support, advice and feedback for applicants.
